Dentist to address Chipped or Broken Teeth

Restorative Dentistry Methuen MAAn imperfect smile can have an impact on the overall appearance, while also affecting one’s self-esteem. When patients are struggling with conditions such as chipped or cracked teeth, they may be unsure as to the restorative options available to them. For teeth near the front of the mouth that are broken, restorative solutions such as composite bonding or porcelain veneers may be suggested by the team at Kalil Dental Associates.

What is composite bonding?

Also known as tooth-bonding, or composite resin, composite bonding can be used to restore the shape and appearance of a tooth. This clay-like material is applied onto the tooth and shaped into place before it is hardened with a specialized light. Once hard, the dentist is able to file it down and polishes it so it looks just like natural tooth enamel. This method of treatment can be done in just one day, and restorations will last approximately ten years with proper care. Patients must take great care in maintaining their smile with brushing and flossing, as composite bonding is susceptible to staining and discoloration over time.

What are porcelain veneers?

An alternative to composite bonding is that of porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are custom facings that are created to match the existing teeth. These facings are bonded right onto the front of the teeth to cover specific problem areas. They are used to address broken or chipped teeth, as well as teeth that are unusually shaped, permanently stained, or spaced apart. Porcelain veneers are longer lasting than composite bonding while being stain-resistant and strong.

Which one is right for me?

Many patients are candidates for composite bonding and porcelain veneers. Choosing the one right for you is best determined during a consultation appointment and initial evaluation with the team at Kalil Dental Associates.
